Pet peeve/bad gamesmanship

IMO, he should have mated me. What is your
reasoning for a player to bypass checkmate
to gain another queen ? In several of my recent games
players played until the end despite being beaten badly
and my comments to them in the chat was
way to hang in there. Not once did I think why are
they not resigning. I have no issue either way it is an
individual decision.
My reasoning is simple. I expect my opponent to resign in completely lost positions. If he doesn't, then I'm within my rights to torture him by getting as many queens as I can.
I see no problem whatsoever with not resigning since there's never anything unsportsmanlike about holding onto hope for a miraculous blunder. Without having firsthand knowledge of what you feel was overkill, I would just assume the other player did not feel confident enough to go for the kill without an ample army and not take it personally. If you don't like a player's style, there should be enough opponents out there to allow you to avoid playing them again.
P.S... A game should be fun, right? If you're getting upset for any reason it may be time for a break
Good points Trudy but it is not a question of
getting upset which I am not. It is all in context of the game.
We all play the game because it is fun and
in my opinion the best game in the world.
There are always players who's style someone might
not like but you need to be exposed to every style
to become a better chess player. Their are some things
that I just think is not good gamesmanship such as asking
for a take back to checkmate someone on the next move
because you missed it the first time. That is not is
what is meant for imo. Chess etiquette does exist.
Of course this is a minor issue in the grand scheme
of things.

Win fair and square according to standards.

Play a game of chess : Play the game as a passtime and aim to end it with a checkmate.

Lead by example: Win or lose with grace, that's real sportsmanship !

Enjoy your standings : Learn from your mistakes.
In longer time controls not resinging, even with completely lost position, can be several minutes. I don't see a reason why one should play on and lose his and his opponents time. Get one more Queen is usually safes way to win. I found wanted to play you should not complain your opponents moves
If we talk about sportmanship, it's generally bad sportmanship to not resign when you are losing badly. This is a well known ettiquette in competitive chess competition. So everything from that point on is fair game. You can't blame him for fooling around getting extra queens for fun as you've given him the chance to do so.
#17 He had a Queen, 2 rooks and a bishop. I had a knight
and a bishop. He had more than enough pieces to mate
me. When I am in that position I don't have any thoughts about a player wasting my time and I would not be
disrespectful by piling on. And it is not a complaint is an
opinion and I respect the opposing points of view.
Are you saying everyone in a losing position should resign
immediately? Are you saying it is impossible for
a blunder and a unexpected victory? Are you saying there
is no value playing in a losing position? How about an
end game which has happened to me on quite a few
occasions which is a blunder that leads to a draw. Happens
all the time. Case made.
